FAQ's - Registration & Eligibility
Can I Register The Day of the Event?
No. This year, the last day to register online is Sunday, September 20. "Day of registration" is not available.
Is There a Minimum Age for the Swim?
There is no minimum or maximum age limit for the swim. Participants generally range from 10 -65. All participants 17 and under must have parental permission to swim in the race and a parent or legal guardian must sign a waiver. The parent or legal guardian does not need to be present at the event, as long as all waivers have been completed in advance.
Is There a Qualifying Time For The Swim?
There is no qualifying time for the swim and we encourage novice swimmers to try this race. Since swimmers are never more that 40 yards from shore, this is a perfect event to try open water swimming. If this is your first open water swim, you may want to swim a shorter race such as the 1k and start at the back of the pack. If you give the lead swimmers a 15-second head start, the pack will thin out and novice swimmers will have plenty of room.
Do I need to be a Member of USA Triathlon or USA Swimming?
For insurance purposes, all swimmers must be a member of one of the above organizations to swim. If you are not affiliated with one of the above, you can purchase a one-day membership in one of the organizations. Options for purchasing these one-day memberships are included on the registration form.
What Happens If There is Severe Weather on Race Day?
If lightning is present, the event will be delayed until the storm moves out of the area. Rain without lightning will not stop the race. If the event cannot be completed on Saturday, we will try again on Sunday; however, every reasonable attempt will be made to conduct the event on Saturday. No refunds due to weather.
What is the Start Time for the Race?
The start time is a function of your affiliation. If you are a member, or purchase a membership in USAT, you will start at 10:00am and you must check in before 9:30am. If you are a member of USA Swimming, you will start at 11:30am and you must check in before 11:00am Insurance requires we conduct separate events for USAT members and USA Swimmers.
The 1k, 2k and 4k swims will start at approximately the same time within each affiliation group. (If there are over 75 swimmers in a group, we will stagger the start with the 2k swim leaving first, followed by the 4k swim two minutes behind, and then the 1k two minutes behind the 4k swimmers.)
